Student Centered School Structure

SANY schools offer a small, safe, nurturing environment to students. Each school has a Dean who is the academic leader, and a Dean of Students who deals with daily student concerns. By creating a small school environment at each location, SANY schools create a family atmosphere in which all staff members know each other and their students, which provides a safe and controlled environment. In elementary school, each classroom has two teachers. In middle school, focus is on having two teachers in ELA and Math subjects. Several courses offered in high school have small classroom-learning environments. Surveys by parents and school staff show that both groups find the small school environment to be extremely valuable and safe. Our staff members know our students individually, and they work with them and their families to achieve the best possible outcome for each student. With small school size and low student/teacher ratio, the schools feel like a family.

The school calendar year is 185 days. Daily instruction is from 8:00am until 3.30pm, which provides an extended school day on a daily basis for students.
For grades 6-12, extra help, one-on-one tutoring, and/or enrichment programs are offered until 5:00pm on weekdays and between 10:00am and 2:00pm on Saturdays on an as-needed basis.

SANY schools offer a two-week summer enrichment program for incoming kindergarten students. This is strongly encouraged to help students adapt to learning in a new structured setting with teachers and groups of children. At-risk students and ELL students from first through seventh grade also are strongly encouraged to attend a two-week summer enrichment program to get a head start and to address any achievement gaps. These programs are offered on a voluntary basis and transportation is provided by parents.

Teachers provide after-school tutoring for students in need, three days a week. Teachers and the Dean of the school determine remedial instruction, tutoring, and academic enrichment programs for students whose data-based performance does not reflect their potential. Out tutoring allows for dialogue and interaction that creates an atmosphere of individualized supportive learning.
