Hands-On Science in Action at CSAR

4th Graders Dive Into the Science of Water and Erosion

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2026: At Citizenship & Science Academy of Rochester, we put the science in SANY!

Our 4th-grade students engaged in an exciting, hands-on investigation to explore how the speed and duration of flowing water affect sand erosion. Through experimentation and observation, students were able to connect scientific concepts to real-world environmental processes.

The activity sparked curiosity, encouraged critical thinking, and led to many memorable “aha” moments along the way. From forming hypotheses to analyzing results, students experienced science in a dynamic and meaningful way.

Engaging, interactive, and, yes, a little messy—this is hands-on learning at its best and a true reflection of how we bring science to life at CSAR.
